The holidays will be brighter for single moms in Denver this year thanks to Applewood Plumbing Heating & Electric’s Caring Community Giveaway. Be the Gift, a local nonprofit that provides critical home repairs to single parent families, will receive $5,000 to jumpstart their 2024.
“The services provided by Be the Gift fit perfectly into our ‘Building a Better Holiday’ theme,” said Josh Ward, owner of Applewood Plumbing Heating & Electric. “These gifts of kindness make a world of difference for a single mom that is working, taking care of her children and maintaining a home.”
2023 Giving Wraps Up
Three organizations were nominated for the holiday giveaway. In addition to Be the Gift, they included Denver Dream Center and Rebuilding Together. The remaining two organizations will receive a $500 donation to their efforts to support community programming.
Be the Gift provides family stability through home repair assistance for single moms and their children. Beyond the home repairs, Be the Gift also offers resources for simple home repair fixes and tips for home maintenance along with scholarships for educational advancement to help ensure future family stability.
The organization has provided more than $850,000 in labor value through their volunteer-supported home maintenance program. They have assisted nearly 900 single mothers and more than 1,400 children.
“This will help us purchase much needed materials and supplies for home repairs for single-mom families,” said Marilyn Johnson, executive director of Be the Gift. “Everyone wants to have their home function and work, so we really focus on the quality of life these families can have.”
This contribution rounds out the 2023 Caring Community Giveaway, which has contributed $24,000 to local charities and various causes nominated by Applewood’s employees and selected by votes from the community. Overall, the program has contributed nearly $300,000 to a variety of local, small nonprofits to support community programs, education and services.
